IF YOU WANT TO GET IT ALL! Most eclipse tours put you shoulder to shoulder with thousands of strangers in Luxor.

You'll be at Abydos — in the sacred precinct where ancient Egypt first told the story of a god who died and was reborn — with almost nobody else there, and archaeologist Steffen Kirchner beside you the whole trip to explain what these temples actually meant to the people who built them, and why they already had their own myth for what happens when the sun goes dark.

STEFFEN KIRCHNER

Expedition Leader · Egyptologist · Sudan Archaeologist · Digital Heritage Specialist

An expedition that has never been undertaken in this form before.

This journey was specially conceived by Steffen Kirchner for the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 – a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event combined with a unique archaeological concept.

This is not simply a journey to a suitable location from which to watch the eclipse. The entire expedition has been designed to bring together the archaeology and history of Egypt with the extraordinary astronomical significance of this event.

Before the expedition, Steffen Kirchner personally travelled the entire route and assessed it on the ground. He has seen the route, archaeological sites and individual stages first-hand.

The itinerary is not intended to be a rigid programme. Until the expedition begins, the route will continue to be reviewed and refined wherever this can add historical, archaeological or geographical value to the experience.

During the expedition, Steffen Kirchner will personally accompany and lead the group. His aim is not simply to visit as many sites as possible, but to reveal the connections between Egypt's history, its archaeology, the landscapes of the Nile Valley and the extraordinary celestial event taking place in 2027.

This expedition was not adapted for the solar eclipse.

It was created specifically for this solar eclipse.

And that is precisely what makes it unique and unrepeatable in this form.

The Eclipse Itself

This route is built so that Abydos — the very place where the Osiris myth of death and rebirth was first written down — lines up with the totality window on August 2, 2027, away from the Luxor crowds, in the same sacred landscape that gave ancient Egypt its own answer for what happens when the sun disappears.
